Delivering a Multiversity of Training and Support

A wealth of skills training and business improvement support is being delivered to local residents and businesses through the Hume Multiversity partnership.

Hume City Council is partnering with 10 leading training providers and industry bodies to offer programs and services designed to build the resilience and competitiveness of local business, and to help residents develop the skills needed for the jobs of the future.

Our Multiversity partners are keen to work with Hume businesses to support them with workforce development and upskilling requirements, business health checks and improvement processes. They can assist with research and development, market research and data analytics, and provide students for practical placements and Work Integrated Learning.

Multiversity Programs & Activities

The Hume Multiversity partners delivered a range of programs and events during 2020 and 2021. Examples include: 

Leaders in Lockdown

A free online leadership development program delivered by La Trobe University.

The COVID-19 Industrry Response Program

A free program to help small and medium-sized businesses pivot and diversify in response to the impacts of the pandmenic. The 12-week online program was delivered by La Trobe University.

Start Your Own Business Now

A four-week workshop series that equips participants with the knowledge and tools to develop their business ideas. The series was developed and delivererd by Holmesglen and Illuminate Education in partnership with Hume City Council's StartNorth businesss hub.

Design, Reset, Grow

40 Hume businesses, community organisations and residents participated in this "design sprint" facilitated by Illuminate Education. The aim was to identify key economic opportunities and come up with ideas and solutions to address them.

Eight project ideas were presented, which helped shape Council's 2021 Economic Development Service Plan.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) Course

A pilot short course, delivered by Victoria University, to assist business with increasing their SEO results. The course was provided to eight Hume businesses at the subsidised rate to increase their online exposure and help mitigate the impacts of the pandemic.

The Hume Overseas Qualified Professional Program

A unique employment-focused program delivered by Melbourne Polytechnic introduces overseas qualified immigrants to the Australian workplace culture and the labour market.

The aim of this program is to help skilled migrants secure employment in the areas they trained in before coming to Australia. At the end of the 10-week online program, each participant is matched with a Hume business to complete a practical work placement. 

Council sponsored 15 Hume residents to participate in 2021.

The Permanent Resident Employment Program

A two-part program delivered by La Trobe University, matched up to 20 migrant engineers living in Hume City with engineering firms for practical work placements.

Each participant completed an initial four-week online short course that provided interactive training, coaching and employment matching, after which they undertook a six-month paid work placement. 

North and West Melbourne Data Analytics Hub

NORTHLink's dedicated hub supported Hume businesses with data analytics projects.

Caravan Industry Information Session

Caravan Industry Victoria, Hume City Council and NORTHLink presented an employer-led information session about career pathways and employment opportunities in the local caravan industry.
