Connecting business, education and community

about page image

Council has partnerships with leading tertiary institutions and industry bodies to promote collaboration and innovation across government, education and the private sector.

Hume Multiversity delivers programs under six pillars, with the overall aim of developing a local workforce and business community that are educated, agile and ready for the jobs and opportunities for the future.

Hume Multiversity can assist businesses by providing:

Research and innovation solutions for real world business problems

Hume businesses can engage with Hume Multiversity partners to support them in providing a solution to their business problem. If you are a business and have a problem you want to solve, register your problem here and we will have one of our partners engage with you to come up with a solution.

Through our partners, Multiversity has the unique ability to offer relevant community-based research projects in Hume whilst also providing practical project experience for Hume students enrolled in Multiversity partner courses.

Multiversity partners provide a suite of services and customised corporate training packages to support Hume businesses in meeting their needs. These can range from leadership or workforce development to business planning and development, exporting and importing.

Multiversity partners provide the option of traditional qualification options and micro-credentialing. Micro-credentialing benefits business through targeted employee upskilling and capacity building, whilst also providing employees with independently verified skill sets and credentials.

Access to courses and tertiary pathways

Through the provision of courses and access to lectures and classes by Multiversity partners, Hume residents have close to home access to education.

Multiversity can also be used as the platform for Tertiary Education partners to pilot new approaches to curriculum.

Other programs can include:

  • Bridging and preparatory programs for tertiary entry and courses.
  • Tuition support and the provision of study hubs.

Internships and work experience programs

We work with industry to provide placement and internship opportunities to Hume tertiary students who are enrolled in courses with our Multiversity partners. This includes building the capacity of the Northern Industry Student Placement Program (NISPP) in Hume City.

Through the North and West Melbourne Data Analytics Hub, businesses are assisted to use their data to their best advantage and students from La Trobe University, Victoria University, Melbourne Polytechnic, Kangan Institute etc. are provided with practical skills and experience.

Community Research initiatives

Hume Multiversity partners can support organisations with undertaking research projects tailored to their needs, these can include gaps analysis, evaluating programs, environmental scans and mapping of community infrastructure and assets. For example, Hume City Council has engaged the Mitchell Institute’s Pathway in Place team to undertake a community asset mapping project of Hume’s jobs and skills system. This project is an important piece of work which will identify gaps in service provision and will help inform service provision in Hume City’s jobs and skills system moving forward. It will also produce valuable information for our community to access to build their awareness and make informed decisions as to how, where and with whom they can engage with to obtain jobs and skills support.

Entrepreneurship programs

Hume Multiversity supports the development of new business and innovation in the community through programs delivered by our Multiversity partners such as:

  • The illuminate Challenge (entrepreneurial challenge aimed at years 9 and 10 students)
